The skin is the most prized possession for most people, and we make every effort to protect and care for it. With summer right around us, some of us may have already splurged on pricey creams and skin supplements, which is perfectly fine! However, following a proper skincare routine is always wise and more effective. Summer is a difficult season for our s kin. The scorching sun and oppressive heat can do a lot of damage while also robbing us of our glow and softness. In addition, our skin becomes oilier and more uncomfortable as the temperature rises. Here’s a guide to a skincare routine that will protect your skin throughout the summer to prevent any more breakouts and damage.  

What effect does summer have on your skin?

As the weather warms and the humidity in the air increases, your skin’s sebaceous glands start to produce more sebum (natural oil). 1. Cleanse two times per day What are the two things you can’t get away from during the summer? Sweat and oily skin are two things that come to mind when I think of summer. While heat causes the skin to produce excess oil, sweat makes it worse and more uncomfortable, resulting in acne. Foam-wash your face twice a day, in the morning after you wake up and at night before going to sleep, to avoid such skin problems. This allows your skin to breathe while also keeping it moisturized.

2. Exfoliate your skin regularly Summer skin can suffer from dryness and dullness in addition to being oily. This is why exfoliating your skin with a face scrub or a natural home remedy like coffee grounds blend with oil and sea salt is so important. It will not only remove all dry and dead cells from your pores, but it will also rejuvenate and keep your skin healthy. However, ensure you do not over-exfoliate your skin, as this can result in bruises and rashes. Once or twice a week should suffice.

3. Use Moisturizer that is water-based During the hot summer months, you won’t need the same heavy-duty moisturizer that you do in the winter. Use a light, water-based moisturizer twice a day instead.

4. Always wear sunscreen UV-A and UV-B rays directly from the sun can be extremely damaging. They can cause premature aging, age spots, wrinkles, and fine lines, in addition to a stubborn tan. So even when you spend most of your time staying indoors, a good sunscreen with SPF 30-50 is important for all skin types during the summer months. If you’re going swimming, it’s recommended you apply sunscreen several times.

5. Ensure your skin stay hydrated During the summer, it is essential to stay hydrated. After washing your face at night, use a hydrating face mask for extra hydration while you sleep. To keep your skin fresh, splash it with water or carry a facial mist with you at all times.

6. Layer on SPF SPF must be a staple in your summer skincare routine, no matter what skin type you have or what skin concerns you may have. Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day, as recommended by the Food and Drug Administration. Reapply sunscreen at two hours interval or immediately after swimming or sweating. Of course, other precautions should also be taken to protect your skin. To name a few, avoid the sun during its peak hours, seek out shade, and wear a broad-brimmed hat.

7. Use refreshing toner A toner is used to close all of your skin’s open pores. During the summer, the skin produces a lot of oil, which collects in these open pores and causes acne. With the help of refreshing toners, this can be avoided. You can choose from aloe vera or cucumber-infused toners.

8. Take plenty of water Drinking a lot of water is the most basic but most important part of any skincare routine. While several people spend a lot of money on expensive serums and face masks, the simplest and most cost-effective solution is to drink as much water as possible. It not only removes all toxins from your body, but it also keeps your skin glowing and soft.

9. Stay off heavy make-up Too heavy make-up prevents the breathing of the skin. Humidity and heat also affect the ability of the skin to breathe. If you must wear make-up, consider using a tinted lip balm and a tinted moisturizer instead of heavy foundation and other cosmetics.

10. Consume seasonal fruits and vegetables Include salads and vegetables such as lettuce and cucumber in your diet to keep your body cool from the inside out. Seasonal fruits such as musk melons, watermelons, and citrus fruits and juices aid in skin health.

11. Avoid sugary drinks Due to the excess sugar, aerated drinks that are sugary make you feel sluggish. They also have no hydrating properties, so they don’t add any value to the body. Instead, they actually make you sicker and help you gain weight.

12. Wear cotton based and other breathable fabrics Cotton fabric offers the most comfort in the summertime. Wear loose-fitting, light clothing. Stay off wearing synthetic fabrics that are too tight. This can make you feel more uncomfortable and sweat more, making your skin itchy and leading to infections.

13. Take your bath twice a day During summertime, it is necessary to keep up good hygiene. Bathing under a cool atmosphere before bed can assist in removing all of the dirt, grime, and sweat that has accumulated throughout the day and guide against rashes. A cleansing, moisturizing, and toning routine should be followed by both a morning shower and a night bath. The skin does change with the seasons. Dry weather in the winter reduces the skin’s natural moisture, causing scaly, itchy skin. Summer humidity can cause bacterial infections, clogged pores, and acne breakouts due to sweat. Air conditioning in the summer and Heater during winter can both lead to dehydration of the skin. Therefore, each season has its own set of skincare guidelines. Summertime demands extra attention and cares for your skin. However, your skin can be protected from the harmful effects of the sun and heat by adhering to a few simple steps like cleansing and moisturizing, staying hydrated, and using sunscreen.
