Hydration Tips for Amazing Skin

The human body is composed mainly of water, but most people do not drink enough each day. The effect of dehydration can affect your overall health, as well as the quality of your skin. When our skin lacks moisture, we experience dry and tight skin, flakiness, and even premature aging. Moisturizing your skin starts within your body.

This summer, stay hydrated from the inside out with these simple tips:

Drink More Water: Women should aim to drink around 2.7 liters of water a day, while men should average 3.7 liters.1 That’s over 15 cups a day! Drinking water is not only essential for your overall health, it’s crucial for your skin’s health. When we don’t drink enough water, our skin becomes dehydrated, dry, flaky, and dull.

Moisturize: Moisturizer plays an important role in your skin’s health, as it holds in water from the outside in. Using a daily facial moisturizer and body lotion regularly can help the skin from feeling itchy and looking flaky. Staying moisturized helps ease extreme dryness and oiliness, and helps common skin conditions, such as eczema and acne.

Diet & Nutrition: Consuming a diet rich in healthy fruits and vegetables high in Vitamin E can improve hydration levels in your skin. Vitamin E fights off free radicals that can over time damage your skin. Foods such as sunflower seeds, almonds, avocados, red bell pepper, mangos and blackberries are snacks your skin will love.

Limit Alcohol & Caffeine: Alcohol and caffeine can have a diuretic effect on the body. Drinking plenty of water after consuming caffeine or alcohol is important to replenish your body and skin and help it get back to its natural moisture levels.

Limit Sun Exposure: Large amounts of sun exposure can damage your skin and dehydrate your body, especially during hotter seasons. When exposed to UV rays over time, our skin cells can die, changing the structure of your skin. This leads to dry flaky skin, redness, even rough patches. Get your reusable water bottles ready this summer, and drink up! Keep your body hydrated for optimal health, while helping your skin look and feel amazing. Stock up on your favorite moisturizers and sunscreens, before heading to the beach!
