Overview

Subcision is a treatment that takes a needle and helps to break apart the tethering that is caused when an acne scar is formed. Acne scars are formed when the tissue of the skin is pulled down from the surface and creates an indentation on the skin’s surface. Once the subcision is performed, new collagen forms and allows the skin’s surface to be smooth, making the scars smoother.

What is Subcision?

Subcision is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is commonly used to treat deep scars, such as those caused by acne, surgery, or injury. The procedure involves the use of a small needle or blade to release the fibrous bands that are causing the scarring.

Subcision Procedure

During the procedure, a local anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. The needle or blade is then inserted into the skin, and a back-and-forth motion is used to release the fibrous bands. This technique allows the skin to lift and flatten, reducing the appearance of the scar.

Recovery after Subcision

Subcision is typically performed on an outpatient basis and has a relatively short recovery time. Patients may experience some bruising, swelling, or redness in the treatment area, but these symptoms typically subside within a few days.

Benefits of Subcision

The results of subcision can be long-lasting, with many patients experiencing significant improvement in the appearance of their scars. However, it is important to note that subcision may not be suitable for all types of scars, and it is important to consult with a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to determine if this procedure is right for you.
